Our Favourite Sea-to-Sky Mountains: The Peaks Worth Seeing From Above

Sea-to-Sky mountains are known for dramatic peaks, unforgettable views, and a wild sense of scale. In a short stretch of land, you’ll find rugged granite faces, alpine ridgelines, and wide valleys shaped by ice and time.

At Sea to Sky Air, we’re lucky enough to experience these landscapes from a perspective most people don’t. Even so, every flight feels different. Light shifts, weather moves quickly, and the mountains always seem to offer something new.

So, which peaks do we keep coming back to? Below are a few of our favourite Sea-to-Sky mountains—and what makes each one so memorable from above.

Why Sea-to-Sky Mountains Feel Different From Above

On the ground, mountains often feel like single destinations. A summit becomes the focus. A trail becomes the plan. The view is powerful, but it’s also limited by what you can see in front of you.

In the air, the landscape tells a bigger story. Instead of one peak, you see an entire range. Rather than one valley, you see the full pathway of rivers and ridgelines. As a result, the region feels more connected and more alive.

That’s why scenic flights are so unique. The views are stunning, of course. However, the perspective is what stays with you.

Our Favourite Sea-to-Sky Mountains

Tantalus Range

The Tantalus Range

Across the Squamish Valley, the Tantalus Range rises sharply and dramatically. It’s an iconic sight from town, but the scale becomes even clearer from the air.

In addition, this range changes quickly with the conditions. Snow, cloud, and light can completely transform the look of the peaks in minutes. Even on calm days, the Tantalus Range feels raw and remote.

Why we love it:

  • Bold, angular peaks
  • A powerful sense of wilderness
  • A defining view in the Sea-to-Sky corridor

Mount Garibaldi and the Garibaldi Massif

Mount Garibaldi and the Garibaldi Massif

Mount Garibaldi is one of the most recognizable Sea-to-Sky mountains. Because of its volcanic shape, it stands out from a distance and holds its place on the skyline.

That said, Garibaldi becomes even more impressive when seen from above. The mountain is part of a much larger massif, which means the surrounding ridges and valleys are just as dramatic as the summit itself. As a result, it feels less like one peak and more like a complete mountain world.

Why we love it:

  • A classic, recognizable silhouette
  • Huge presence in the landscape
  • Stunning surrounding alpine terrain

Black Tusk

Black Tusk

Black Tusk is one of the most striking landmarks in the region. Its dark volcanic spire rises out of the alpine and instantly draws your attention.

While many people know it as a hiking goal, the aerial perspective shows its full context. The surrounding plateaus, ridgelines, and valleys give it a scale that’s hard to grasp from the ground. In particular, the contrast of rock against snow makes it unforgettable.

Why we love it:

  • A distinctive shape you can’t miss
  • Strong contrast in every season
  • One of the most iconic features in the Sea-to-Sky

Whistler Blackcomb

The Mountains Around Whistler

Whistler is famous for ski terrain, but the mountains surrounding it are impressive year-round. Aerial views reveal how layered the landscape really is.

For example, the transition from dense forest to open alpine happens quickly here. Steep ridges rise out of the valley, and wide bowls open up beyond them. As a result, these peaks highlight one of the best parts of the Sea-to-Sky: dramatic changes over short distances.

Why we love it:

  • Wide ridgelines and open alpine areas
  • Big elevation shifts
  • Classic Sea-to-Sky mountain scenery

Coastal Mountains

The Coastal Mountain Backcountry

Some of our favourite Sea-to-Sky mountains aren’t famous. They may not have names people recognize. Still, they often deliver the most powerful feeling of wilderness.

Deeper in the backcountry, the landscape becomes quieter. Instead of roads and viewpoints, you see valleys without trails, lakes without docks, and peaks that feel untouched. Because of that, these flights can feel especially grounding.

Why we love it:

  • Remote views with minimal development
  • A strong sense of calm and space
  • A deeper connection to wilderness

What Makes Sea-to-Sky Mountains So Unforgettable?

No two flights are exactly the same. Conditions shift quickly in the Sea-to-Sky. Light changes. Weather moves through. Seasons reshape the terrain.

As a result, the same tour can feel completely different depending on the day. One flight might be crisp and clear. Another might be moody, with cloud and soft light. Either way, the mountains always deliver something worth noticing.
